Ordering Vegan at Taco Bell

Have you ever noticed that many ingredients of delicious Mexican fare also happen to be vegan? The beans, potatoes, tortillas, guacamole, and rice at Taco Bell are all animal-free—so basically anything can be made vegan. The easiest way to order vegan at the chain is by swapping beans for meat (for no additional charge) and asking for it “fresco style”—the cheese and sour cream will be replaced with pico de gallo.

We admit that fast food isn’t exactly the healthiest option, but if you’re going to indulge once in a while, it might as well not hurt animals. For those occasions, we decided to map out how to order vegan at Taco Bell:

Menu Item: Taco Salad

Substitute beans for beef, and leave out the sour cream and cheese. You can also add rice, potatoes, guacamole, and red sauce for more flavor.

Menu Item: Bean Burrito or Black Bean Burrito

Order it fresco style. If you like, you can add potatoes and rice. Try guacamole on the side.

Menu Item: 7-Layer Burrito

Again, order it fresco style. It’s pretty much the easiest thing ever. You can also add potatoes and red sauce for a spicy kick. Extra guacamole never hurts.

Menu Item: Crunchwrap (or Double Decker Taco)

Ask for beans instead of beef, and say no to cheese and sour cream. Or try this one at home:

Menu Item: Tostada

Just say “no cheese!” and hold the creamy chipotle sauce. For a small fee, add chunky salsa or guacamole.

Menu Item: Tacos

Ask for beans instead of beef, and say the magic words “fresco style.” Add guacamole to make the tacos extra delicious.

Menu Item: Mexican Pizza

Substitute beans for beef, and hold the cheese. Add guacamole, or take it home and microwave it with some vegan cheese on top.

Menu Item: Veggie Power Burrito

Order this one with beans instead of chicken. Ask for it fresco style, and add guacamole instead of the avocado ranch sauce.

Menu Item: Cinnamon Twists

Order as is! Taco Bell’s cinnamon twists are accidentally vegan!
