Rainbow Grilled Cheese Is the Newest Multicolored Comfort Food Trend

One chef in Hong Kong has created a multi-pastel-colored grilled cheese for just $5 USD and it’s gone viral on Instagram

Move over rainbow bagels and rainbow pizza dough; it’s time for the next colorful carb creation: rainbow grilled cheese. KALA Toast in Hong Kong’s multicolored grilled cheese is taking the Internet by storm.

The bright blue, pink, purple, and green-hued melted cheese toastie may look like a Salvador Dali rendition of an Easter egg, but each color actually represents four different flavored cheeses. For instance, the green is basil and the pink is tomato, while the blue/purple is lavender.

The whole sandwich will cost you about $2 HKD (or $5 USD), but unfortunately, according to one Instagram reviewer, this grilled cheese does not taste like springtime and unicorn breath.

Such an honour to be featured by @9gag on their social platform and the post got over 400,000likes! Lots of followers expressed their interest in this rainbow grilled cheese toast, thus I decided to repost it with the food review in english here. The toast costs $42 HKD and those coloured cheese are lavender (blue), basil (green), tomato (red) and the yellow one is actually the combination of 4 kinds of cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, emmental and gruyere). The toast was crispy but I reckon both the flavour of the lavender and tomato were subtle. The basil flavour was the most outstanding one comparatively but the cheese flavour still was not as storing as my expectation. It was also a bit oily in general. I would say the quality was rather average but we all cannot deny that it is photogenic. Shop: KALA toast Address : G/F, 4-6, Tsuen Hing Path, Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong
