Not A Joke: Ben & Jerry's Releases Passover-Themed Ice Cream In Israel

We know you're on the lookout for fake news today, but this is as authentic as your grandma's homemade matzo ball soup. Ben & Jerry's has released a special Passover-themed ice cream for the observant Jewish population (and anyone else with a sweet tooth) in Israel. Every year, according to the Huffington Post, Ben & Jerry's scoop shops in Israel severely limit their menus around Passover, and add a special Kosher for Passover flavor.

This year, the Passover scoop special is Charoset. Charoset is a traditional compote made from apples, walnuts, cinnamon, and sweet red wine that is served during the Passover Seder. It is supposed to represent the mortar that the Israelites used to cement bricks when they were slaves in Egypt. The compote is usually served on matzo, but it apparently also makes for a delicious ice cream flavor. Sadly, the charoset variety is only available for a limited time, and only in Israel. This has made charoset-craving Americans very upset.

"I think after this year we had enough of those flavors," Avi Zinger, a representative from the Israel Ben & Jerry's factory told NPR. "People are very upset that they cannot find it, and it's not available, so I say, forget it."

See you in the flavor graveyard, Passover ice cream.
