Food Network Is Airing A TV Show Focused On Bad Yelp Reviews

Restaurant reviewers meet your matches: They're armed with virtual stars and an arsenal of angry emoticons.

Food Network has announced a new show featuring Yelp reviewers called 12 Hungry Yelpers, where restaurant owners read scathing Yelp reviews and improve their businesses based on Yelpers' opinions.

"12 Hungry Yelpers is a funny new show we're doing in partnership with Yelp Inc.," Scripps programming chief said in an interview. "You go into a restaurant and give it a Yelp review and then always wonder if the proprietor ever reads them. [Host Monti Carlo] goes in and outs them."

Monti Carlo was a MasterChef season three finalist who also hosts a show on the FYI Network. No premiere date has yet been set for the new show, but it will likely air sometime this fall.

"Making Yelpers theĀ arbiters of something and having chefs come crawling to them on television sounds kind of nauseating," Anthony Bourdain told the Daily News. "Is it the stupidest idea? Probably not."
