This one’s for all the shuckers out there. MLB-blacklisted baseball legend Pete Rose, aka Charlie Hustle, will be hosting the reception for an annual clam-eating contest on Long Island.

Not only will there be plenty of famous Long Island clams, but proceeds will benefit the firehouses on the South Shore of Long Island, which were badly damaged by 2012’s Hurricane Sandy and have still not been fully repaired.

The clam-eating contest will take place on Saturday, August 15, at Peter’s Clam Bar & Restaurant at Island Park at 6 p.m.

Long Island has been known for its rich history of clamming for centuries and in the 1970s more than half of all clams were from Long Island shores. Pete Rose himself has a love of clams. Even though Rose has been banned from baseball since 1989 for illegal gambling, and is ineligible for Hall of Fame induction, he will be inducted this year into the Peter’s Clam Bar Hall of Fame.
