The World's Most Expensive Grilled Cheese Is $214, And It's Edged In 24-Carat Gold

Serendipity 3, the New York City restaurant with a particular knack for creating expensive, gold-covered versions of classic American foods — like the $69 "haute dog," the $295 cheeseburger, and the $1,000 gold sundae — has just announced that its menu now includes the world's priciest grilled cheese.

For now at least, Serendipity 3's "quintessential grilled cheese" is the most expensive one that money can buy. The sumptuous sandwich features lobster, truffle oil, and Champagne, and, of course, it has a 24-carat gold border.

If you absolutely can't bear to live without it, you'll have to place your order two days ahead of time to ensure that the chef has enough gold in the pantry.

"We came up with grilled cheese because that's the ultimate in comfort food," chef Joe Calderoni told The Daily Mail.

"What better way to celebrate that sandwich than with the quintessential version of that sandwich?"

You know, for when you're craving a really classic grilled cheese, but you want to pay upwards of $200 for it.
