Walmart Fires Beloved 88-Year-Old Greeter For Letting Wild Turkey Into The Store

A wacky situation at a Wisconsin Walmart turned into bad news for one elderly door greeter. After a wild turkey was caught running amok at the Walmart in Waukesha last week, beloved Walmart greeter, Bob Tallinger, 88, learned that he was fired for not properly alerting his manager of the incident.

"He was hired to be a greeter and that's what he did," Tallinger's wife Janet told local news station WREG. "He never saw a book of rules that said if a wild turkey comes in here, you better run and get management."

Janet contested that her husband's sudden termination after his eight years of successful service at the company was unfair, and the local Walmart has thus far not responded to requests for comment. Thankfully, this story has a happy ending: The nearby St. Vincent De Paul Walmart location snatched Tallinger up, and he is greeting shoppers with his friendly face once again.

"To his old coworkers — he wants to let you know how much your support means to him and that he will miss you every day," his granddaughter Jessica wrote in a Facebook post. "Bob has been recruited and hired at St. Vincent de Paul as a greeter! He is very grateful to work for an organization that is so giving to our community. Please visit his smiling face!"
