A Texas Wendy's Is In A Heated Sign War With A Tea Shop

In recent years, Wendy's social media presence has been on-point with witty comebacks on Twitter. Last year, the fast-food chain was caught in a Twitter battle with Burger King, and this year, Wendy's challenged the viral chicken nugget boy who won free nuggets for a year. Now, a Wendy's location in Lubbock, Texas, has gained a burst of internet fame with its sign war against a local tea shop.

According to Kyler Smith, assistant manager at Pure Water Tea Ice & Tea Company, the business has been trying to provoke its neighbor for a while, KCBD reported.

Smith said that the war began when the tea company advertised on its sign that local football star Kliff Kingsbury, the former quarterback and now head coach at Texas Tech University, drinks there for free.

Santos Perez, general manager of the Wendy's, wanted to fire back and replied, using the fast-food chain's sign to ask: "Hey Kliff, hungry and thirsty? We got you."

The companies have continued the playful sign battle, but the managers have not spoken in person.

"Just through the signs," Perez said.

The sign war shows no signs of abating— Kingsbury himself has yet to weigh in on the matter, and Smith says the invitation is still open — but until it does, both businesses will surely keep the internet entertained.
