Someone Set Up An Indiegogo Page To Help Chef José Andrés Pay His Lawsuit

Donald Trump filed a $10 million lawsuit against Chef José Andrés on July 31 following Andrés' decision to "Dump Trump" — or, in other words, back out of his plan to open a restaurant at the new Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. To help out the chef, someone has created an Indiegogo page to assist Andrés in paying off the lawsuit.

The campaign's goal is $100,000 and in the past two weeks, they have raised $7,362. "Let's show Trump that Jose Andrés and the Hispanic community won't be bullied by money and lawyers," its description reads. "Your money goes directly to José Andrés' ThinkFoodGroup to cover the expenses of absorbing Trump's lawsuit."

Trump is seeking $10 million in damages that include lost rent and the cost of finding a new tenant. Andrés decided to cancel the restaurant on July 8 because Trump made comments about Mexican immigrants "bringing crime" and "being rapists." As Andrés said in a statement at the time, "As a proud Spanish immigrant and recently naturalized American citizen myself, I believe that every human being deserves respect, regardless of immigration status."
