Sam Kass, White House Chef And Nutrition Advisor, Will Step Down At End Of December

Sam Kass, the White House chef and President Obama's Senior Policy Advisor for Nutrition Policy (and Let's Move! Executive Director) will step down at the end of the month, the Obama administration has announced.

During his six years as a personal chef for the family and a member of the administration, Kass has been critical in establishing healthy eating initiatives and agricultural programs.

In partnership with the James Beard Foundation, Kass has also travelled the world to promote diplomacy through shared culinary experiences.

"From constructing our Kitchen Garden to brewing our own Honey Brown Ale, Sam has left an indelible mark on the White House," said President Obama in a statement. "And with the work he has done to inspire families and children across this country to lead healthier lives, Sam has made a real difference for our next generation. Over the years, Sam has grown from a close friend to a critical member of my team, and I am grateful for his outstanding work and look forward to seeing all that he will continue to achieve in the years ahead."

Kass, who married MSNBC television anchor Alex Wagner in August of this year at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, will move to New York after he steps down. According to a statement from the White House, Kass will "remain engaged" with the Let's Move! program, and his successor will be named next year.
