Obama Administration Announces Pork Ban In Federal Prisons, Sparking Outrage

There will be no more pigging out for American inmates. The recent federal decision to ban pork products from prison has sparked outrage and debate from prisoners who will miss their bacon ration. However, the move has struck a positive chord within the Muslim community. The decision to go halal behind bars has nothing to do with religion. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, pork got kicked out because it's expensive and was the lowest-rated meat by prisoners.

"Why keep pushing food that people don't want to eat?" said Edmond Ross, a spokesman for the prison bureau. "Pork has been the lowest-rated food by inmates for several years told the Washington Post. "It also apparently got more expensive for the government to buy, although he did not provide specifics.

However, according to the USDA, the price of pork has dropped over the years, while consumption of pig products is on the rise.

"I find it hard to believe that a survey would have found a majority of any population saying, 'No thanks, I don't want any bacon,'" National Pork Producers Council spokesman Dale Warner told the conservative news website Western Journalism. "Not to throw beef under the bus, but we cost a lot less than beef."
