McDonald's Is Opening A Fancy Pop-Up Called 'Restaurant M' In Tokyo

Vichyssoise Mac fries, patty pinxtos, and other upscale versions of the McDonald's menu will be available to customers in Tokyo, Japan, looking to try out the chain's upcoming pop-up, Restaurant M.

The restaurant, which will be open for one day only, on July 27, will serve full-course meals from a new line of items called "Fresh Mac," complete with white tablecloths, elegant menus, and carefully laid-out utensils, according to Weekly ASCII.

Participation in Restaurant M will be determined by lottery, and each seating will accommodate 20 guests, made of 10 pairs. Unfortunately, the pop-up is only in Japan, and there are no known plans to bring this refined version of the chain to the United States.

Presumably, the special event is an attempt by McDonald's to repair its reputation in Japan, where the company has struggled to maintain its customer base after an expired meat scandal, plus the discovery of a number of unwanted items — vinyl, plastic, and a human tooth — in customers' orders.
