Look What This Cop Did After Arresting A Woman For Shoplifting Birthday Cake Ingredients

One New Hampshire police officer is being hailed for his act of generosity after footing the bill for a woman who he had just arrested for shoplifting. The woman had stolen cake mix, shortening, and frosting in order to bake her son's birthday cake, which she could not afford.

The officer said that while he did not condone the mother's actions, he did not want to ruin her child's birthday, so he went back to the store and purchased the items himself. The anonymous woman was not charged with anything.

"I'm not going to take away a kid's birthday cake," Officer Michael Kotsonis, a 19-year veteran of the Portsmouth police force told The Clay Center Dispatch. He stayed mum about his good deed until a store employee told the local newspaper about the kindly act.

"I didn't do it for the attention," officer Kotsonis said. What you do when no one is looking, that's the character of someone."
