Houston Mother Charged With Leaving Her Children Unattended At Mall Food Court

A mother in Houston, Texas, has been charged with abandoning her children at a mall food court on July 17, according to KHOU.

Laura Browder took her 6-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son to the Memorial City Mall food court near a McDonald's. Browder was meeting someone at the food court to interview for a job. She said she did not have enough time to make childcare arrangements, so she sat them within 30 feet of her interview.

When Browder returned to her children, a police officer was there to arrest her. She said this in a statement:

"I had a interview with a very great company with lots of career growth. I am a college student and mother of two. I would never put my name, background or children in harm's way intentionally... My children weren't even 30 yards away from me, I fed them and sat there with them until it was time to meet with my interviewer. This too will pass and I am not concerned with outsiders have to say or what they think."

Browder was offered the position, but she's unsure how her arrest will affect the job offer. The job was not for a position at the mall.
