Grocery Store Worker, 22, Takes Lonely Widower Out To Dinner

One grocery store worker went above and beyond for one of her favorite customers who was feeling a little bit lonely for the holidays. Everyday hero Ellie Walker, 22, is an employee at Sainsbury's in Leeds, England. When she found out that her customer Edwin Holmes, 86, would be dining alone on Christmas as he does most days, Walker did not hesitate in asking him to dinner.

Walker and Holmes had dinner on Christmas, and he showed up in his best suit and brought her flowers. Holmes told The Sun that it was his first date in 55 years.

"He is the cutest man and so chatty," Walker told The Sun. "I thought if it was my granddad and he was alone I would want someone to talk to him."

Holmes, she learned, was once a painter and interior decorator and retired at the age of 76. He had been living alone since his wife passed away in 2006, and most of his family lives in Australia.

"The dinner made me very happy as it was unexpected and I had very pleasant company," Holmes told The Sun after his dinner out.
