The Biggest Chefs In The World Are Swapping Kitchens For One Day This Summer

What if you could eat René Redzepi's cooking at Momofuku Ko? You may not get that exact experience, but culinary mixing and matching is the general principle behind the Grand Gelinaz Shuffle, taking place on July 9. On that day, 37 of the world's greatest chefs will switch places, including Danny Bowien of Mission Chinese Food in New York City, Sean Brock of McCrady's in Charleston, René Redzepi of Noma in Copenhagen, Alain Ducasse of La Plaza Athénée in Paris, Carlo Mirarchi of Blanca in New York City, and Dominique Crenn of Atelier Crenn in San Francisco. This all-star list of some of the most exclusive culinary talent in the world will not only be swapping restaurants, but also lives and identities.

During the worldwide event on July 9, chefs will be "walking their dogs, watering the plants, [and] having breakfast with their family" in addition to cooking in their temporary kitchen digs. The event is being organized by Gelinaz, a "collective of international chefs" who are known for "pushing boundaries... inventing... and 'adopting to uncertain situations.'" The slightly enigmatic organization also organized the surprise tribute dinner for Wylie Dufresne shortly before wd~50 closed.

Tickets for the "Shuffle," which will go on sale starting May 13, will likely sell out pretty quickly. You can find the full list of chef participants here.
