Ben & Jerry's Announces Upcoming Vegan Ice Cream Flavor

Vegan comfort food addicts, rejoice! Ben & Jerry's has just announced that it will release a dairy-free ice cream in spring 2016.Although specific details about the new vegan frozen treat are scarce, Ben & Jerry's did state that the upcoming product will use coconut milk or almond milk as a base, much like other popular vegan ice creams out there such as Coconut Bliss and So Delicious Dairy-Free.

"In the U.S. there are [dairy-free] alternatives from smaller companies, but Ben & Jerry's will be the first mainstream company that will do that and will also do it in a really delicious way," company cofounder Jerry Greenfield told Metro U.K. "I think that's a big thing for Ben & Jerry's to be doing that."

The new Ben & Jerry's vegan ice cream will be available both in the United States and the U.K., although flavors and mix-ins have not yet been announced. Ben & Jerry's already sells a line of dairy-free sorbets, but this will be the company's first foray into the world of animal-product-free ice cream.
