Woman Drinks 28 Cans Of Red Bull A Day, Says She Is Going Blind

A woman in Ireland is going blind from drinking 28 cans of Red Bull a day.

Lena Lupari, 26, lives in Newtownabbey in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. She weighs about 364 pounds and has three sons. Lupari does not have a job and relies on the National Health Service in the U.K. for monthly benefits. Of these £1,800 in benefits, she spends more than £450 on Red Bull. That's about $700 out of $2,800.

"I'm hooked on Red Bull, it's like a Class A drug," Lupari told The Sun.

Recently, Lupari has been experiencing migraines and "black spots" in her vision. This is because one can of Red Bull contains 27 grams of sugar, which is 756 grams of sugar when multiplied by 28 cans per day. That's also 80 milligrams of caffeine per can, which is 2,240 milligrams in 28 cans. According to the Mayo Clinic, people should drink no more than 400 milligrams of caffeine a day.

Lupari has been urged to lose about 100 pounds, but she'd rather undergo gastric bypass surgery and have the NHS cover the costs. "I'm trying to cut down but I've tried before and I always relapse," Lupari told The Sun. "I can't let it go."
