SodaStream Jumps on the Home Brewing Train With the Beer Bar

Sparkling water-making company introduces a home beer system

The Beer Bar allows customers to make beer at home by adding a specially made concentrate to sparkling water.

SodaStream is entering the beer market with the launch of the Beer Bar, a homemade beer system. The beer is made using sparkling water and “a unique beer concentrate brewed to perfection,” according to a release.

The Beer Bar comes with concentrate for a light beer named Blondie, which is described as having “a smooth authentic taste and a hop-filled aroma.” Blondie concentrate is simply added to sparking water to create an at-home brew. Blondie contains 4.5 percent alcohol by volume, and a one-liter Blondie bottle yields approximately three liters of beer.

“We are excited to launch a brand dedicated to serving the global growing trend of home crafted beer,” said Daniel Birnbaum, CEO of SodaStream. “Our core carbonation technology and distribution infrastructure provide a great platform for us to extend our business into this emerging category, and we choose to do so with a dedicated beer brand.”

The Beer Bar is available in SodaStream Germany’s online store and in leading retailers in Switzerland. The brand’s other markets will have to wait until late 2016 and 2017 for the Beer Bar to become available.
