This New York City Bar Donates All Profits To Anti-Trump Causes

The revolution will not be televised — it will be in the backroom of your neighborhood watering hole. Coup is a new bar opening this week in New York's East Village that has committed to donating 100 percent of proceeds to anti-Trump administration nonprofit organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood. The Coup team — which includes the mastermind behind Death & Co. and Mother of Pearl — hopes the bar will serve as a center of political and social involvement for the community.

Owner Ravi DeRossi told The New York Times that the bar will be decorated with recreations of posters from anti-Trump protests like the Women's March. It will have a rotating list of guest bartenders who will be able to choose an organization to receive the night's profits. Many high profile bartenders have already signed up, and several have even come from San Diego, Austin, and other cities to get in on the unique concept.

"The current administration seems to be willfully tearing down the good works built up by administrations past," said Sother Teague, DeRossi's business partner for the Coup concept, told The New York Times. "Coup is our opportunity to use the influence that we have and the good nature of our guests to highlight some of those works that need both support and visibility."

The Daily Meal has contacted Coup for more information.
