New Affogato-Style Frappuccinos Take Inspiration From Classic Italian Dessert

The latest drink offerings from Starbucks may just give those secret menu 'rainbow' drinks a run for its money.

Starbucks customers in the U.S. and Canada can enjoy affogato-style Frappuccinos. The drink, inspired by the classic gelato affogato — a scoop of vanilla gelato or ice cream topped with a shot of hot espresso — is essentially a Frappuccino topped with a shot of espresso.

The coffee chain is offering its vanilla bean, caramel, and mocha Frappuccinos affogato-style. However, any Frappuccino can be ordered with a shot of espresso poured on top, according to a press release.

"We start with a shot of our smooth signature Espresso Roast known for its rich flavor and caramelly sweetness," said Ryan Coombes, on the Starbucks beverage development team. "When you pour the espresso over the Frappuccino, it creates a beautiful marbling finish."

The affogato-style Frappuccinos are available at participating Starbucks stores throughout the summer.
