Cat Cafes Are Passé: An Owl Smoothie Bar Is Opening In London
Cat and puppy cafes are so 2014. Bring on the newest "drinking with animals" trend: the owl bar. A pop-up owl smoothie bar called Annie the Owl is opening soon in the SoHo neighborhood of London. Interested in hanging out at the new Hooter's? You'll have a long wait. Tickets for the opportunity to sip and bird watch are distributed through a lottery system, and 64,000 people have signed up already.
The owl bar will be open for just one week, from March 19th through the 25th, and tickets are £20 each ($30.50 USD). Annie the Owl initially offered two cocktails per owl enthusiast patron, but due to concerns from animal welfare groups, they decided to pass on the alcohol and offer up smoothies instead. All profits and proceeds will be going to an owl sanctuary.
If you are lucky enough to score a ticket, you'll be able to choose the time and date of your arrival, and hang out with six owls, including Annie. You'll also meet other barn owls, horned owls, screech owls, and a mystery winged guest who is a finalist in the World Owl Beauty Pageant, according to the Independent.
