Applebee's Employee Accidentally Serves Alcoholic Root Beer To Three Children

We knew Not Your Father's Root Beer was good, but passing for normal root beer? Not so much.

An Applebee's employee in Johnson City, Tennessee, accidentally served the alcoholic drink Not Your Father's Root Beer to three children, mistaking the beverage for its non-alcoholic counterpart, reports WJHL.

Scottie Barnett, father of the children aged 9, 10, and 11, brought the beverages to the attention of the employee, who insisted the drinks were root beer despite Barnett telling her it was not. Barnett called the police and Applebee's corporate office to report the incident. The 9-year-old child was taken to a nearby hospital as he complained of stomach pains, but is expected to be OK.

Applebee's spokesperson Patrick Lenow says all team members at restaurants operated by the owner were retrained, and adds that the incident was "an isolated mistake in one restaurant owned by an independent franchise operator. Strict requirements are in place to prevent this type of error and this mistake should not have happened."

The employee who served the beverages has been suspended and is the subject of an internal investigation.
