Whether you're enjoying snow crab legs seaside or hosting a clambake in your backyard, nothing says summer quite like fresh seafood.
At the Lehigh Valley's newest seafood restaurant., Mr. Crab Seafood House in South Whitehall Township, you can indulge in a variety of maritime munchies - from raw bar selections such as oysters and littleneck clams to grilled favorites such as salmon and shrimp.
The 3174 Tilghman St. restaurant, which opened July 17 in the Village West shopping center, specializes in seafood dishes with an Asian flair, including sushi, seafood fried rice and kang koong (shrimp with bamboo shoots, bell peppers and basil in a coconut red curry sauce).
"We know a lot of people like seafood, but there are not a lot of places around here to get it," said Billy Chen, who is operating Mr. Crab with partner James Zhan.
The 90-seat restaurant offers a variety of seafood, including fried calamari, red snapper and Chilean sea bass, but it also offers selections such as edamame, grilled marinated beef skewers and pad chicken and eggplant.
Most entrees, including pepper salt shrimp and mussels in white wine and garlic, are under $20; while other seafood, including crawfish, Dungeness crab and lobster, is priced by the pound ($15-$35).
Other menu highlights include salads such as seaweed and lobster fruit; sushi or sashimi such as octopus and sea urchin; and nearly two dozen specialty sushi rolls.
"Our most popular dishes so far have been the Thai selections - pad Thai, Thai-style fried rice and green curry chicken," Chen said.
Chen and Zhan spent about six months overhauling the former Elevation Burger space. They added new wainscoting, kitchen equipment, furniture, pendant lighting and nautical decor such as anchors and life preservers.
The partners also are nearing completion of fast-casual Chinese eatery Chopsticks set to open mid-August in the Allen Street Shopping Center at 15th and Allen streets in Allentown.
Mr. Crab, which offers take-out and lunch specials, is open daily for lunch and dinner. Info: 610-351-1887.
