Every week, Mike Augustyniak picks a new cocktail recipe from a local mixologist. This week he’s dabbling in a cobbler from La Belle Vie. What’s a cobbler, you ask? Read on!
Far North Cobbler
1.5 oz. Far North Solvieg Gin
1 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
1 oz. Cocchi Americano
1 oz. Simple Syrup
Shake all ingredients with ice vigorously, top with one oz. Soda Water, and garnish with a lemon twist and raspberry.
While winter is usually for dark liquors, bartender Adam Gorski from La Belle Vie said the Far North Cobbler is “an escapism kind of thing. Why not do a refreshing drink when it’s snowing outside?”
Regardless, this drink has its cold-weather pedigree, if only for where the gin is distilled – Far North Spirits in Hallock, MN. Their Solveig (pronounced SOL-vye) gin is a milder, American-style gin that pairs well with the Cocchi Americano, itself a milder version of sweet vermouth. If you want to put your head down and escape winter, this is an easy and effective way transport yourself to a different season.
