Area Public Officials, Community Leaders and More than 325 Benjamin Parker Elementary Students Honor Trisha and Cinnamon Lee as One of Five Ben's Beginners Cooking Contest Grand Prize Winners

RANCHO DOMINGUEZ, Calif., Dec. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The UNCLE BEN'S® Brand, the number-one global rice brand, is excited to name Trisha and Cinnamon Lee of Kaneohe, Hawaii as one of five grand prize winners of the Ben's Beginners™ Cooking Contest. In its fifth consecutive year, the nationwide contest has inspired parents and kids to cook together, offering them the tools they need to get cooking and empowering parents to connect with their children one meal at a time.

Trisha and Cinnamon Lee were one of 25 finalists selected from nearly 2,000 entries from families with children in Kindergarten through eighth grade nationwide.  Entrants submitted photos of themselves and their families preparing a rice-based dish, capturing the fun and creative way they cook together. Trisha and Cinnamon Lee were selected as one of five grand prize winners and awarded a $30,000 school cafeteria makeover, a $15,000 cash prize for the family and a hometown celebration at Benjamin Parker Elementary with UNCLE BEN'S® Brand representatives, public officials and their community.

"We believe that learning to cook is as important as reading and writing. When families cook together, they not only create lasting memories in the kitchen but they also make healthier meal choices," said Caroline Sherman, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Mars Food North America, the parent company of the UNCLE BEN'S® Brand. "We're proud that Trisha and Cinnamon Lee have proven how the simple act of cooking and eating together as a family can have a positive impact on an entire community."

"The community of Kaneohe rallied around us and supported our family through the Ben's Beginners™ Cooking Contest. We truly felt the Hawaiian sense of 'Ohana' or 'family,' from start to finish and we can't wait to celebrate with everyone," said Trisha Lee.
