When you think “country cooking,” what comes to mind? How about giant breakfast skillets, biscuits, burgers, chili, loaded baked potatoes, bone-in ham steak, chicken fried steak, and fried seafood? Well, all of those (and more) are on the menu at Kelley’s Country Cookin, which has seven Texas locations: two in Houston and one in La Marque, Pearland, Pasadena, League City, and Alvin. For more than 25 years, this place has been dishing up old-school American fare that stands the test of time.
You won’t find any diet food on this menu; it’s all made from scratch with love, and most of it is gut-busting. The wide-reaching menu starts with a huge variety of breakfast items, including three-egg omelettes, steak or pork chops and eggs, biscuits with sausage gravy, country-fried chicken biscuit, pancakes, French toast, and waffles. Lunch items include a 16-ounce burger, patty melt, hot roast beef or turkey sandwiches, and 1/3 pound burgers and hot dogs topped with homemade chili. For dinner, there’s a 12-ounce ribeye steak (which you can pair with fried shrimp or chicken), chicken-fried steak in three sizes, and lots of fried seafood, which is also available in po’ boys.
