Johnny and Betty De Grusha may not have invented the po’boy, but having opened in 1950, theirs is a legacy to be proud of. The De Grusha’s opened their grocery/sandwich store at 506 Chartres, and relocated to the current location in 1959 to keep up with demand. Today, the family’s third generation continues Johnny’s tradition, one embodied by his famous quote, “Even my failures are edible!” — Arthur Bovino

Tips

  • Omg. You have to get the gumbo and half poboy special. I got the oyster poboy and it's amazing. All the locals recommended and I can't agree more.
  • Grab a po' boy where it was born in 1950 at this French Quarter institution, which has 40 varieties of the famous sandwich. Creole fare is also on the menu. Lines may be long, but service is speedy!
  • Get half po' boy and gumbo special, perfect for lunch.
  • Get the $3 chicken n biscuits for breakfast!
