Jack in the Box today introduces its latest upscale burger LTO, called Jack’s Brewhouse Bacon Burger (below). The name alludes to a Porter Ale cheese sauce that partners with its signature 1/4-lb. beef patty, grilled onions, bacon tomato, lettuce and “creamy pub sauce” on a toasted potato bun.
This burger & brew blend closely follows Carl’s Jr.’s test of a Budweiser Brew House Bacon Cheeseburger with “Budweiser Beer Cheese” as a topping (along with bacon and caramelized onion). No doubt Red Robin Gourmet Burgers & Brews is feverishly working on a beer-infused burger for its menu. And others are sure to jump on this beer-burger trend as well.
Also worth noting is the Wall Street Journal’s report that Jack in the Box produced a virtual-reality film to promote the new burger. The film apparently is just for media members. I’m still waiting for mine.
Finally, I reported last week on a report from Cowen and Co. on incidences of value/discounting Facebook posts vs. new product/existing product menu posts. Jack is playing both those roles. In addition to today’s new product intro, it also has used Facebook to offer a “Buy One/Get One Free” deal on Buttery Jack burgers.
Big Mac Sauce doesn’t have beer in it, or diamonds, but the desire for it exceeds understanding. McDonald’s Germany will auction off a special 750ml cartridge of Big Mac Sauce plus sauce gun. Proceeds go to Ronald McDonald House Charities. Check out the bidding at http://goo.gl/3V3KKa.
You’ll recall that a similar auction in the UK in February created a frenzy of bidding, and Australia’s offer of bottled Big Mac Sauce for $4.99 sold out in minutes.
Summer movies bring summer-movie burgers. The unmatched Zombie Burger + Drink Lab in Des Moines, Iowa, has created the “I Ain’t Afraid of No Ghost” burger for the new “Ghostbusters” film. There’s beef in there, topped with pulled pork, pepper-Jack cheese, ghost chile-EctoCooler sauce, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and chipotle mayo.
