Intelligentsia Coffee is a solid chain in major cities. They have excellent coffee, like the Moka Java blend, and baristas pay attention to details and understand the art of brewing. The latte is also great, with the perfect foam to espresso ratio.

  • Bring your parents here and watch them try to order a cup of coffee.
  • Thought youd want to know: Intelligentsia has been nominated for Best Local Coffee Roaster in Time Out Chicagos 2011 Eat Out Awards. Vote now!
  • Spent some time in this Intelligentsia which gives off the feel of an Italian Espresso Bar. Great coffee of course and the baristas are very nice and knowledgeable. Known as the Monadnock location.
  • Do not make eye contact with the Barista when he or she is making a drink
  • Probably the best cup of coffee in the city.
  • Wow. Intelligentsia is the Maybach to Starbuck's Cadillac. Go for the individual drip. They don't have wifi, but you may be able to get the signal from Union League Club next door.
  • The guys in suspenders look so nerdy-hot. Oh yeah, the espresso is excellent.
  • Ordering can be tricky for first-timers. No matter what you're getting, place your order with the barista to the right, behind the espresso machine, then move left to the cashier.
  • They don't have skim milk. They make you feel like an idiot if you ask for skim milk.
  • Awesome spoons. Try the coffee!
  • Starbucks this is not, but that is why it is great. Drinks are carefully made. The cappachinos are ever so nice with a beautiful design in the foam.
  • Quite possibly the best espresso in the country! My barista pulled a test shot, tasted it, made adjustments, and pulled mine. Amazing!
  • Little known fact... the 'g' is silent...
  • The pourovers are always good if you have the time. Engage the barista! Ask them about Intelligentsia and coffee!
  • Cappuccino
  • It is a great place , nice ambiance with a great cafe. It is a little pricy
  • I guess this is the only independent coffee shop that you can find in the Loop.
  • If getting my meticulously poured traditional cappuccino from a charming barista in a bowtie is wrong, then I don't want to be right.
  • Iced mocha!
  • Seems to attract Chicago's eccentrics. Love it.
