For thousands of years, cacao was accessible only to the wealthy. Through trade and science, cacao mixed with sugar, or chocolate became available to the masses. With increased popularity comes an increased need to be aware of how cacao production adversely affects the lives of others and the environment. By making appropriate changes to current practices, we can continue to take pleasure in consuming the food of the gods.
