Christopher and Idie Hastings, the chef-owners of Hot and Hot Fish Club, located in a historic building on Birmingham’s Southside, pride themselves on crafting what they call “memory cuisine”, using simple ingredients to create dishes that trigger a sense of nostalgia in their diners. Fish is — no surprise — the specialty, but vegetables picked at the optimum point and top-quality meat and poultry are also treated with respect and skill. — Molly Aronica, 2/18/11

Foursquare Tips

  • Skip the first glass of wine and get something from their cocktail menu. They use a lot of the same seasonal ingredients and creativity as the dinner menu. Really tasty results.
  • Budget for $100/person including drinks and taxes. Chris Hastings is worth every penny though.
  • Try the Homemade Ravioli - Chris did great. No wonder he won best chef in the South
  • Make weekend reservations far in advance! The food and service here are worth it! Try the snapper and the Fried okra! Of course it's tomato salad season! Come and get them before they're gone!!!
  • How can you top a truffled meat cookie, you ask? With a Shotgun Shell cocktail and an order of the finest shrimp and grits Alabama has to offer.
  • The skate wing was amazing!!

  • Had a "flight" of vegetarian sides as an entree, which turned out terrible - could easily tell something was missing in all of them. The appetizer mushroom risotto was outstanding, however.
  • This is really one of the premier restaurants Birmingham. I have never had a meal here that is not unbelievable.
  • Possibly one of the best dinners I have ever had. Menu is different every day as they use fresh ingredients for everything. All of it is a winner however.
  • If you do dessert try the watermelon sorbet it's amazing
  • Bayou la batre shrimp was great. Hot and hot Noodles not my favorite but the place is great and has world class service.
