The Texas Hill Country is home to some of the best barbecue in America, and at Manhattan’s Hill Country and its newer cousin Hill Country Brooklyn, you’ll find an incredibly faithful (and delicious) representation of what makes Texas barbecue so great.
Part honky tonk, part music venue, part barbecue market, part serious restaurant, Hill Country Brooklyn is a sprawling bi-level space in Downtown Brooklyn with some seriously great barbecue. After being seated, you head up to the counter where you order meat by the pound, and then head down the line for sides. Meats are slices to order, and if ever there was place where your eyes are bigger than your mouth, this is it. Be careful, because it’s easy to go overboard.
Smoked meats include brisket (moist and lean), pork spare ribs and loin, beef shoulder clod, boneless prime rib, bone-in short rib, sausages shipped in directly from Kreuz Market in Texas, turkey breast, and chicken. As for sides, don’t miss the macaroni and cheese and corn pudding, and make sure you save room for their legendary peanut butter and jelly cupcake. Washed down with a couple pints of Shiner, you just might think that you’re in Texas.
