The Texas Hill Country is home to some of the best barbecue in America, and at Manhattan’s Hill Country and its newer cousin Hill Country Brooklyn, you’ll find an incredibly faithful (and delicious) representation of what makes Texas barbecue so great.

Part honky tonk, part music venue, part barbecue market, part serious restaurant, Hill Country Brooklyn is a sprawling bi-level space in Downtown Brooklyn with some seriously great barbecue. After being seated, you head up to the counter where you order meat by the pound, and then head down the line for sides. Meats are slices to order, and if ever there was place where your eyes are bigger than your mouth, this is it. Be careful, because it’s easy to go overboard.

Smoked meats include brisket (moist and lean), pork spare ribs and loin, beef shoulder clod, boneless prime rib, bone-in short rib, sausages shipped in directly from Kreuz Market in Texas, turkey breast, and chicken. As for sides, don’t miss the macaroni and cheese and corn pudding, and make sure you save room for their legendary peanut butter and jelly cupcake. Washed down with a couple pints of Shiner, you just might think that you’re in Texas.

Foursquare Tips

  • You care about the environment, right? Well, they give you slices of white bread. Use them as napkins and then eat them. Sustainability at its finest. Who needs paper napkins?
  • For 2 people: a pound of meet (1/2 moist brisket, 1/2 pork loin), 2 sides, cornbread. Skip the pork ribs.
  • The new Brooklyn outpost of Hill Country has all the favorites from the original, plus a few new options like a whole hog Sunday supper, and a riff on Brooklyn Blackout cake for dessert.
  • Come starving
  • beef brisket sandwich with onions. brisket is shredded and saucy so it's almost sloppy joe style.
  • The brisket is amazing!
  • Everything is good here, if you like meat. Everything, except the cornbread, is unfairly delicious, in fact.
  • hearty side portion of rich mac and cheese
  • This was a great meeting experience. If you love barbecue, brisket or ribs, then this is the place to eat in downtown Brooklyn.
  • Great happy hour... 3-7 with tasty bar eats.. Monday is happy hour all night!!!
  • Wonderful. The moist brisket is delicious. And the seasonal drafts are very good.
  • Great place for big groups and parties. Delicious food and top notch service. Go on Monday for all you can eat.
  • Banana pudding was great. Brisket was good. Did not care for the hot link. Green bean casserole and corn pudding was awesome.
  • Go for the brisket. Stay for the sides.
  • Texans rejoice! They will serve you actual chips and queso here even though it's not on the menu. Just ask.
  • Did a phone order on 50 wings. Went to pick them up and got "our smokers are full, wings will be ready at 4pm" wtf!!
  • Different menu than Manhattan, sounded disappointing but everything was great (short rib, shoulder, spare rib, brisket). However the # of small children @9pm on Friday was my own personal nightmare.
  • Green bean casserole and moist brisket cannot be missed!
  • The short rib is outstanding; tender, juicy and full of flavor. Ribs were OK and Brisket was cooked to perfection.
  • The dry rub wings were delightful.
