Kind Bars Recalled For Mislabeled Ingredients

Kind Snacks, the company behind low-sugar candies for kids and the controversial healthy snack bars, has issued a recall on a limited number of their Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt flavor bars because the package fails to provide an allergy warning.

One of the main ingredients in Kind Bars is nuts — so if you're buying a Nuts & Sea Salt variety, you already know to avoid it if you have an allergy. However, if that allergy is for walnuts in particular, you might believe you're in the clear. Kind now warns that this may not be the case — depending on when the bar was manufactured.

"This product always had walnuts in it up until March when we decided to remove them," said a Kind representative to Today. The company's recall was relatively small, only affecting a small number of batches manufactured before March with the expiration dates 12/20/2017 and 2/4/18.

Walnut allergies have the potential to cause serious, life-threatening allergic reactions; omitting the warning for walnuts on the label was a major food production faux pas.

In its official recall notice, Kind states, "The recalled products may be safely consumed by those who do not have an allergy or sensitivity to walnuts. People who have an allergy or sensitivity to walnuts should not consume these products."

Obviously.

The wrapping on individual bars is correctly labeled, walnuts included. It's only the larger packaging on the 12-count box that made the mistake. If you're worried about whether or not your bar contains the craving-crushing nut, simply check the wrapping on the individual bar. This particular recall is relatively small — and probably won't make it on our list of the biggest recalls of the year.
