Let’s face it, when you eat sandwiches you’re happy. For whatever reason, layers of flavorful ingredients between fresh bread just puts a smile on your face. When delicately braised meat finds its way into your sandwiches, that smile gets exponentially wider. Untamed Sandwiches—a small and super casual spot located in Midtown—is in the business of smile widening. And business is booming.
Ordering anything other than one of their gourmet braised-meat sandwiches is criminal. And don’t embarrass yourself by ordering just one. Start your meal with the Nettle Neck: braised lamb neck with walnut pesto and gruyere. The zesty walnut pesto lassos the savory lamb and gruyere together for a flavor combination worth the trip alone. After shaking off the goodness of the Nettle Neck, order the French-onion-soup-inspired Frere Jacques: Port Wine- braised flatiron steak, caramelized onions, gruyere (you can never have enough gruyere) and crispy tobacco onions. The steak falls apart with each bite, and the onions and gruyere create a Royal Rumble of flavor worthy of a moment of silence while you eat. Now, find a mirror big enough to look at that smile plastered on your face. You handsome devil.
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Untamed Sandwiches—who pride themselves in using organic vegetables and grass-fed meat—offers a casual place to eat delicious gourmet food. Take a seat at the center wooden table while you listen to an eclectic mix of tunes. The open dining room is brightly lit, and the friendly staff can answer all your menu questions. If you order Untamed’s specialty sandwich, $1 goes towards charity. Word of advice, however: if you want to avoid the crowds, go for dinner; the lunch rush can sometimes be overwhelming.
