  • Mount Vernon was home to George Washington for more than 45 years. Washington enlarged the residence and built up the property from 2,000 to nearly 8,000 acres. See video for more history.
  • Visit our first president's beloved home seven days a week, 365 days a year, but first take a look at this 1970s photo of the estate from our Documerica collection.
  • Be sure to save time for the Education Center - lots of cool exhibits and a movie that snows on you!
  • Great view of the Potomac . . . George and Martha picked a great spot~
  • Free admission on Presidents Day
  • Travel back to a time before cars at the home of our first president. Be sure to see the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center where youll find snowfall in the theater! (Trust us on this.)

  • George Washingtons estate was left to the elements until 1858 when it was rescued from disrepair. Today, the mansion boasts $100 million worth of restoration work. (From Aerial America)
  • You can see all kinds of cool things!! Even the actual DENTURES of George Washington himself.
  • Beautiful grounds! Make sure you schedule more than a couple hours for this trip, there's a lot more to see than you think! They also did a great job with the education centers and multimedia theatres
  • Come during the Christmas season and see the 3rd floor.
  • Hold onto your Mount Vernon entrance ticket when you leave and use it at Washington's distillery just a few miles down the road! Definitely worth the additional stop!
  • George Washington's home...so much history. Make sure to visit his burial site and pay your respects. Make sure to tour the home and museum.
  • Travel just west of the estate and see Mount Vernon as visitors would when they first arrived. You can easily see how they would be impressed, if not slightly in awe, of his home.
  • Not only is this educational, it's eventful. In every room, George Washington is reflected in the furniture, lighting, etc. The garden is spectacular in the spring and you may even see his dentures!
  • If you're a local, consider getting the $25 yearly pass instead of the standard $15 one-time admission.
  • If you are in a time pinch and want to make sure to tour the mansion, buy an annual pass (an extra $10) and you can bypass scheduled tour times and go directly into the mansion.
  • Take a photo of the tulips before going in. They're gorgeous. Also watch the interesting 20 min film on Washington before heading outdoors to visit the gardens and house.
