Tips

  • Fort Point was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers between 1853 and 1861 to prevent entrance of a hostile fleet into San Francisco Bay and was occupied in WWII in order to protect the Bay.
  • From the right side of the parking area, there is a great vantage of the Golden Gate Bridge. Get low and try to capture one of the rusty chains in the foreground with the bridge in the background.
  • This Civil War fort offers a unique view from directly underneath the bridge. The intricate girders contrast with the historic brickwork. Shoot in the late afternoon from the top level.
  • The place, where Madeleine (Kim Novak) takes a reckless plunge into the waters of the Bay in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller "Vertigo".
  • Notice the greenish rock near the entrance. This is serpentiniteCalifornias state rockwhich likely came from deep within the earths interior. This rock holds up the south tower of the GG Bridge.
  • Make it in to see the fort, it's epic and almost unknown how much history they have stored up in there. Plus a cool view of the city toward North Beach & the bridge. Tap you hands at the runners mark.
  • stand under the golden gate bridge and look back at the city as the fog horn blows
  • Absolutely beautiful place to be right under the Golden Gate Bridge. Great place to take a lot of great photos as well. Make sure you wear a jacket when you head upstairs (best not to wear a dress).
  • Will always remind me of Hitchcock's Vertigo.
  • Golden Gate view
  • Please, don't try to recreate the scene. I will not jump in thr Bay after you.
  • This Civil War-era fort was used as a base camp during construction of the Golden Gate Bridge and as a scouting point for enemy submarines during World War II. (From Aerial America)
  • Go to the top floor of Fort Point and walk around it and to the edge to see stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bonita Lighthouse, San Francisco, and the rest of the channel in.
  • Fantastic place. Great view to the bridge and interesting stories regarding Fort Point
  • Awesome spot to take pictures of the bridge
  • Free. Walk around and get funny at the strong winds blowing at you at the top
  • Great history and one of a kind views.
