Tuesday night Scott Conant, with guest Amanda Freitag, hosted a cocktail party at his SCM Culinary Suite loft in Soho. The ticket sales from the night are going to benefit the Food & Finance High School. The school offers an academically rigorous career and technical education that focuses on culinary arts and finance. Proceeds will help the school continue their mission by helping in areas such as paying for college applications and building a greenhouse on the roof of the school.
The caliber of the night was exactly on par with what you would expect from Scott Conant. Small dishes were prepared in the chef’s kitchen which included gnocchi with lemon pesto and a delicious short rib agnolotti. But what really made the evening special and the true stars of the night were the handful of students on hand assisting with executing the event. Getting to chat with each of them and to hear about their experience first hand truly made it clear why the Food & Finance School is so special.
Chefs Conant and Freitag both took a few minutes to speak about their own backgrounds and how they became a part of the culinary world. Also on hand to support the cause were Geoffrey Zakarian and Elizabeth Karmel. I think that anyone else who was present would agree that we were all moved by the cause.Without the school, most of these kids would not have the opportunity to pursue the culinary part of their dreams.
