  • The museum was incorporated in 1893 as the Columbian Museum of Chicago, but the name was changed in 1905 to Field Museum of Natural History to better reflect its focus on the natural sciences.

  • This museum's centerpiece is a flying machine whose size and reputation dwarfs all others. It is the Hughes H-4 Hercules, the largest aircraft to be built almost entirely from wood.

  • The permanent 'Traveling the Pacific' collections islander artifacts include an outrigger canoe displayed on a daydream-inducing fake beach.
  • Blow on down to The Field Museum on this windy Thursday and say hello to SUE the T.Rex.
