Fat Head’s Brewing signs with Point Blank Distributing, releases Breakside Collaboration
Fat Head’s Brewing signs distribution with Point Blank, releases Breakside Collaboration beer “Juggling Plums Gose” today. The Ohio based Fat Head’s opened their Portland location in November 2014 and have quickly filled their taps with both existing popular recipes and new ones from Head Brewer Mike Hunsacker while building relationships with local brewers like Breakside Brewery.
Yesterday Portland based Point Blank Distributing announced they had signed on as Fat Head’s Oregon beer distributor making their beer more available outside of the brewpub including in Eugene and other cities. Good news for fans of their terrific Head Hunter IPA and Ultra Pilsner.
Fat Head’s collaboration beer with Breakside Brewery is a fun take on a Gose, “Juggling Plums” is a slightly sour wheat beer made with the traditional additions of salt and coriander. What makes this special collaborative version unique is that all the salt comes from the Japanese salt plum better known as “Umeboshi.” The small Japanese plums are cured with “Red Shiso” and salt and ferment themselves for a year in wooden barrels. They are described as having an intensely briny flavor and herbaceous quality with a light sweetness.
The two breweries split duties with Fat Head’s producing the sour portion of the beers wort wile Breakside made the base wort and salt plums. Juggling Plums Gose is described as a gateway sour with a moderate body and slightly spicy finish and a session able 5% ABV.
