A lot of places have the same method of serving “fast(er) food”. Chipotle wields your protein, carbs, veggies, and $2 guac into a burrito or a bowl. Similarly, Dig Inn will put your choice of protein and two sides on a platter. Hell, even the Halal Guys on 53rd and 6th are giving you a protein, a carb, and veggies, just without all the choices.

Although the concept may be widely used, there’s one spot in Midtown that’s not getting enough credit where credit is due… and it could be a matter of time until they’re as widespread as Dig Inn. The name of the place, you ask? Between the Bread.

Food:
While they do things ‘between the bread’, the name of this place is misleading. Instead of going in with the mindset of grabbing a sandwich, you can expect to find a variation of meats, fish, and tofu options to choose from, all while having upwards of 10-20 choices of sides. How does it differ from the other places, you ask? The quality and freshness.

All the ingredients used are regularly sourced, so each day something different could be prepared. If you catch it on the right day, be sure to have the Moroccan Salmon.
(There was a pun in there if you caught it. Ah, did it again!)
Seasoned and cooked to perfection, we’ll declare the preparation of this orangey/red, flaky fish, flawless. Accompany that with some Brussels sprouts (since they’re in season right now) and maybe some couscous or quinoa, and you got yourself a complete meal.

Not feeling like taking the healthy-route today? Then slide on over to the dessert counter. Freshly made whoopie pies, chocolate chip muffins, blueberry muffins, and all other types of things that will have you in food-coma by 3pm.

Festivities:
The interior of BTB makes you feel like you’re outside of the city. With a rustic feel throughout, you’ll find a few two-person tables facing the windows, otherwise you can fight your urge to be an anti-social New Yorker and saddle up at the huge cafeteria-style table in the center of the floor.

The staff is extremely eager to help and they’re very knowledgeable of all the foods being served. If you want to take a few things to go (aside from your meal), grab some locally-sourced snacks – maple syrup gum, Hu Salty Chocolate bars, locally-made sweet potato chips, or some Sigmund’s pretzel chips. Yes, from the soft pretzel place in the city.
