Family: Learn how to cook at ArtsQuest program

On Saturday, ArtsQuest's Peas & Q's free family programming at SteelStacks offers something different from the usual musical entertainment - a chance to learn how to cook.

Natalie Miller, chef at the ShopRite of Bethlehem, and Olivia Fieo, a registered dietitian, will lead a cooking class and discussion focused on the power of produce. The class will make No-Bake Power Crunch Bar Pies and a DIY Veggie Dip with fresh herbs and spices. Kids will discover new tastes and recipes for fruits and vegetables they can make on their own.

The class works this way: Each child will receive portioned out ingredients for each recipe. Natalie will demonstrate what happens when we add fruit to heat, making a jam to top off the pies. Kids will smash power crunch bars in baggies to create a crust and fill it with whipped cream cheese and Greek yogurt. Kids will also make an easy and healthy veggie dip with Greek yogurt but enhanced with herbs and spices. Kids can sample vegetables to eat with the dip.

The leaders will also talk to kids about making their plates half full of vegetables and about the importance of eating the rainbow.

The class is at 11 a.m. at the ArtsQuest Center, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem. Info:, 610-332-1300.
