How To Host A 'Game Of Thrones' Dinner Party

How to Host a Game of Thrones Dinner Party

The eagerly anticipated new season of Game of Thrones is just one month away. We've had the date circled in our calendars ever since the dramatic end of season five in June last year, and now that we're only a month away from the return of our favorite fantasy show, the countdown has well and truly begun. We can't wait to spend every Sunday evening curled up on the couch, watching the dramatic world of Westeros unfurl, while we sip on our goblet of Seven Kingdoms' finest red wine. To celebrate the imminent arrival of Game of Thrones season six, it's time we all got ourselves back in the mood of the land of flying dragons and unnecessary murder, with a grand medieval feast.

Arya Stark’s Oysters, Clams, and Cockles

Start the meal in a suitably decadent way, with a selection of shellfish. Season five saw Arya Stark disguise herself as "Lana the orphaned Oyster Girl," forced out onto the docks with her cart selling "oysters, clams, and cockles." A selection of Arya's goods would be a tasty way to begin the feast.

Black Bread

A rich, satisfying, black bread is an essential accompaniment to any decadent feast in the Seven Kingdoms. This dense loaf will be much needed to help soak up all the wine, and will be delicious alongside those oysters, dragon's eggs, and pies.

Bleeding Heart Cupcakes

Love, war, and bloodshed are certainly Game of Thrones' key characteristics. With so many brutal deaths and attacks, eating bleeding heart cupcakes seems incredibly appropriate. The concealed gooey, strawberry jelly filling will please every sweet-toothed Game of Thrones fan.

Bran’s Beef and Bacon Pie

To celebrate Bran's return to Game of Thrones, after his conspicuous absence in season five, we should all be feasting on his favorite pie. This sweet, rich, meat pie combines dried fruit and salty meats to create a beef and bacon pie that Bran would be desperate to feast on.

Dragon’s Blood Wine

We know that all our loved and hated Game of Thrones' characters are partial to drinking far too much whenever the occasion presents itself, so the alcohol should definitely not be restricted at your Game of Thrones evening. Fill up some clear glass bottles with red wine, label it "Dragon's Blood," and serve it in goblets for the perfect themed accompaniment to your meal.

Dragon’s Eggs

Dragon's eggs are not as common as they once were in the land of Westeros, but these precious eggs will make a beautiful addition to your dinner table. Making marbled eggs following the traditional Chinese method for tea-stained eggs will result in a delicate boiled egg, which looks very similar to what we imagine a real dragon's egg would be.

Fire Breathing Dragon Cocktail

No cocktail could be more Game of Thrones-appropriate than this Fire Breathing Dragon concoction. This fierce, red drink counteracts its sweetness with a burning heat from chile syrup and pink peppercorns: There could be no better way to begin your themed party than with this dramatic drink.

Roasted Leg of Lamb

It wouldn't be a real Game of Thrones feast without huge hunks of meat weighing down the table. Slow-cooking a hefty leg of lamb will mean your home is filled with the fragrance of roasting meats: The perfect way to set the scene for this fantastical, medieval dinner party.

Sansa’s Lemon Cakes

It would be unfair to host a Game of Thrones dinner party without ending the meal with Sansa's favorite delicate lemon cakes. We know that Sansa is still going to be playing a major role in season six, and so we must celebrate that with her beloved lemon cakes. These citrusy, sweet, buttery cookies are the best way to welcome her into the new season.

Spiced Wine

What better way to warm up a brutal winter's evening in the land of ice and fire than with a warming serving of the Old Bear's favorite mulled wine? Warmed through and packed full of fragrant spices to add even more heat to this comforting drink, it's suitable for those who are feasting, as well as those who are bracing the chill and guarding The Wall all night long.
