How to Eat Like the Victoria’s Secret Angels

It would be easy to assume that the Victoria’s Secret Angels really don’t eat anything. To look like that in such little clothing, surely they follow a strict diet of celery, water, and maybe a cold-pressed green juice as a special treat. And that’s on top of endless workouts, and, of course, being born with amazing genes. At least that’s what we tell ourselves whenever we see another photo of these tall, slender, minimally dressed models. However, that’s not necessarily the truth. While some of the Angels do subsist solely on chicken breasts and steamed greens, others swear that they keep themselves sane by eating a burger every other day. There seems to be no “one size fits all” Victoria’s Secret diet.

Adriana Lima

Adriana’s Instagram profile consists of an eclectic collection of sweaty post-workout selfies, red carpet looks, and backstage beauty prep. Adriana follows a strict diet, where portion control is key. She mainly eats lean protein and green vegetables. No sauces are allowed (her food is always plain), and she also passes up on sugar, carbs — apparently they make her feel puffy —or anything fried. For this model, snacks always consist of raw vegetables, and occasionally she’ll have a spoonful of honey for an energy boost. How she has the energy to work out twice a day, we have no idea.

Alessandra Ambrosio

Alessandra Ambrosio

In the lead up to the Victoria’s Secret show, Alessandra lives off a restrictive, carb-free diet of only 1,200 calories per day. However, the rest of the time she eats much more normally: She cites sushi as her favorite food, and is a big believer in eating a substantial breakfast (which normally consists of eggs, fruit, and coffee). Even more surprisingly, she treats herself to tea and a red velvet cupcake three times a week, and enjoys a glass of red wine every evening.

Cara Delevingne

Anyone who follows Cara Delevingne online knows that she’s a fast-food fiend. This skinny model seems to have an easy time maintaining her Angel-ready figure: She reportedly ate McDonald’s the day before the Victoria’s Secret show, and ordered a pizza as soon as it was done.

Gigi Hadid

Gigi Hadid has always exercised a lot, and this meant that she hasn’t had to alter her diet too much since starring on the Victoria’s Secret catwalk. She tries to eat clean and work out all the time, but claims that she needs a burger at least every other day to keep her sane. Gigi believes that life is all about balance, so to counteract her cheat-day burgers she’ll drink a spicy citrus juice from her favorite New York juice store, Juice Press.

Gisele Bundchen

Early this year, Gisele’s personal chef revealed what this supermodel and her husband Tom Brady do — and mainly don’t — eat. On the list of “not eaten” is white sugar, flour, MSG, cooked olive oil, salt (unless it’s pink Himalayan salt), caffeine, dairy, gluten, fungus, or nightshades. It’s therefore no surprise that she needs a personal chef to cater for all these needs, nor that vegan brown rice sushi is her favorite meal. That’s about as indulgent as food on this diet gets.

Heidi Klum

In every interview Heidi Klum talks about her love of pasta, fries, and cheeseburgers, but she then admits that she tries to not eat any carbohydrates at all. Instead, she starts every day with a smoothie, and her restricted diet revolves around lean protein and fresh vegetables. However, she will indulge in her favorite spaghetti with truffles when the best truffles are in season, of course.

Izabel Goulart

Izabel Goulart’s phenomenal figure isn’t a result of crazy diets: She doesn’t believe in intense, crash dieting. Instead, she lives a permanently healthy, low-calorie life. Every day begins with a fresh juice, every workout is followed by a protein drinkcoconut water is drunk daily, and she always has a protein bar in her bag.

Karlie Kloss

Karlie Kloss

Karlie Kloss calls herself the “Queen of Snacks.” Her collaboration with Milk Bar’s Christina Tosi to create a range of dairy-free, gluten-free, naturally sweetened Karlie’s Kookies is enough proof of this. In her purse, you will always find a selection of Kookies, Kind bars, instant hot chocolate, and oatmeal sachets. When in New York, she starts the day with an almond milk cappuccino, and a couple of mouthfuls of Christina Tosi’s cookie dough, which she always keeps in her fridge. This chocolate-loving, baking-obsessed Angel is not one to conform to strict diets: If she can find a way to eat chocolate for breakfast she will.

Lily Aldridge

Lily Aldridge

Lily Aldridge’s diet does not come cheap. She relies on Sakara Life, a plant-based food delivery service, which can cost up to $99 a day. On top of this, she sips on coconut water, her favorite Chlorophyll H20 Juice from Pressed Juicery, and snacks on avocados and rice cakes, and doesn’t drink alcohol.

Miranda Kerr

Miranda Kerr

Miranda Kerr’s diet revolves around water, smoothies, shakes, and herbal tea. Every day begins with hot water and lemon, followed by a vitamin smoothie made of coconut water, goji berrieschia seedsmaca powderspirulina, and cacao. We don’t believe that this can taste good. She also has a cold-pressed green juice, and a protein shake every day. With all that juicing and blending, we’re surprised she even has time to snack on apples and almond butter, let alone to indulge in her guilty pleasure, her grandmother’s pavlova.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

This British model begins every day with one liter of water, which is followed by a boiled egg with spinach, and a green juice. For the rest of the day she eats lean protein and green vegetables. However, Rosie can’t resist every guilty pleasure, so she follows the 80/20 diet rule, which allows her to indulge in her favorite croissants, cheese, wine, and cocktails 20 percent of the time, when she needs a break from her vegan diet.

Stella Maxwell

Stella Maxwell

Stella Maxwell once stated that “Drinking water is the key to life.” She accompanies her life fuel with natural food, beginning her day with fresh juice, and once in a while indulging in a hamburger and fries, washing all those toxins and salts away with yet more water.

Tyra Banks

Tyra Banks

Although Tyra Banks once went out to eat pizza with her mom after being told by yet another agency that she needed to lose weight, pizza doesn’t feature much in this Angel’s diet. To control her food intake, Tyra keeps a food journal where she writes down everything she eats: Having to be so brutally honest helps her to resist her guilty pleasures, and stick to the high-protein, fresh, organic food she’s meant to eat.
