Family Fun For Summer Holiday Entertaining

From Meredith Sinclair, Juicy Juice Family Time Expert and author of "Well Played: The Ultimate Guide to Awakening Your Family's Playful Spirit."

Summertime means firing up the grill and filling your backyard with the sweet smell of BBQ. According to Statistic Brain, more than 150 Million hot dogs are consumed on the 4th of July! No matter when your outdoor family gathering is, here are my top tips to make the most of this special time together.

  1. Patriotic Table Setting: Set up a decorating station at your family BBQ, especially if you have younger kids around. Deck out a table with washable paint, markers and a large sheet of paper as a table cloth. Before everyone eats the kids (and adults!) can sit around to display their patriotism with doodles and drawings. If you don't have paper for a table cloth, take the creativity to the driveway with colored chalk.
  1. Fun & Festive Drinks: There is no better way to get everyone in the spirit of the holiday than a festive drink to beat the heat! Drink recipes are not just for adults. Give kids their own special cocktail for the afternoon. The Juicy Juice Kids Tropical Sparkler is always a festive and easy drink for the kids to make!
  1. Outdoor Family Fun: During your BBQ make sure you have a few games that can involve the whole family (kids and adults!). One easy game that's always a hit, is to turn your slip and slide or driveway into a bowling alley. All you need are empty plastic juice bottles (10 to be exact), paint and water. The night before your party paint the bottles by pouring a few drops of paint into each bottle—More or less to cover the entire inside. Make your pins festive by painting them a red, white and blue. Once you have enough paint inside, have the kids shake the bottle so paint covers the entire inside surface. Take caps off and pour out any excess liquid, and leave caps off overnight to allow paint to dry. Then at your BBQ, put the lids on, grab a ball and it's good to go. If you are worried about the "pins" blowing away put rocks on the bottom for added weight.
  1. Make Sparkling Treats for On-the-Go: One of my favorite activities to partake in during the summer is a parade or fireworks! After your family BBQ make a fun treat for everyone to bring along for the firework showing. Juice Pops made with 100% Juicy Juice are always a hit with the kids and parents can feel good about a healthy no added sugar option to a traditional store bought Popsicle.
