9 Foods That Always Get Stuck In Your Braces (Slideshow)

You think bread would be simple for a person with braces. But we often forget that hard, crusty bread can be super painful to bite down into if you have a wire metal getting in the way. And the soft, doughy breads are by far way easier, but if they are too soft and doughy, you'll find those ooey, gooey insides wrapped around your brackets fairing quickly.

Sugar Candies

Not all sugar candies are necessarily prohibited for those with braces, but they do tend to lodge themselves between your brace brackets. This is extremely dangerous for your dental health for when sweets lodge in an unseen spot it can cause tooth decay!

Popcorn

Technically these are on the "no-no" list for folks with braces. Undeniably one of the worst feelings is having a piece of kernel wedged between your teeth. And heck, these kernels even get stuck in teeth without braces, imagine getting them lodged in an unreachable braces crevasse!

Corn

Biting into a sweet piece of corn on the cob is a satisfactory sensation. Well that is unless you have braces. Then the task becomes darn near impossible! All of the kernel skin gets wrapped around your mouth wiring and suddenly you're finding pieces of corn weeks later!

Seeds

Seeds are pretty tricky when it comes to braces. They can sneak in between teeth and can be very hard to get out if they are tiny enough. And we aren't just talking about salty snacks like sunflower or pumpkin seeds: this includes the seeds found on everything from bagels to strawberries that seems to break free and wreak havoc on our teeth.

Gum

If you have braces and you feel the urge to chew gum, fight it with all of your will power. Seriously, the hours you will spend picking gum out of your rubber bands is not worth it!

Broccoli

Despite the softened state it reaches when cooked, broccoli florets are still a pain to enjoy when you keep collecting them in the wires, brackets and bands of your braces. Before you know it, your teeth look like astroturf!

Pretzels

Specifically when it comes to these snacks, it isn't so much the pretzel as it is the salt crystals. Those delicious flavor enhancers end up making for a horrible time of finding and picking out of teeth.

Chunky Peanut Butter

Technically you should avoid this if you have braces, but chances are you're going to sneak a bite or two of chunky peanut butter. And when you do, you'll be picking out those little chunks of nut for a long, long time.
