7 DIY Face Masks From Your Kitchen Slideshow

Avocado Face Mask

Don't just use it for guacamole — avocado is a superfood for your skin, too! It's full of vitamins that moisturize and rejuvenate skin, leaving it looking fresh and supple.

Ingredients:

1 ripe avocado

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Method: Mash the ingredients together in a small bowl until they form a thick paste. Apply to face and let sit for 10 minutes before rinsing off.

Berry-Yogurt Mask

With an ingredient list that includes berries, yogurt, and honey, you may want to eat this mask instead of wearing it. But it works wonders on your skin, brightening and moisturizing it to leave it glowing. If you don't have blueberries, try raspberries or blackberries instead.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup berries

2 tablespoons yogurt

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Method: Blend the berries, yogurt, honey, and lemon juice until the mask is well-mixed. Refrigerate for 10 minutes, then apply the mask. Let sit for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with warm water and pat dry.

Brown Sugar Scrub

This sweet scrub is both exfoliating and moisturizing. It's especially effective for re-hydrating chapped lips.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive or coconut oil (if your coconut oil has solidified, place the jar in a bowl of warm water to liquefy it before mixing with the sugar)

Method:Mix the ingredients together in a small bowl. Massage the scrub onto your face, avoiding the eye area. Let sit for 5 minutes, then rinse off with warm water and pat dry with a towel.

Cucumber-Avocado Mask

With cool cucumber and soothing aloe, this mask is a great way to rejuvenate red, sunburnt skin. Refrigerate before applying to maximize the cooling effect.

Ingredients:

1/2 cucumber (or 1/4 of an English cucumber), diced

1/4 avocado, diced

1 teaspoon aloe vera gel

Method: Blend the diced cucumber and avocado until it forms a paste. Stir in the aloe vera gel, then apply to the face or any other sunburnt area. Let sit for 15 minutes, then rinse off.

Grapefruit Toner

Light and refreshing, this easy grapefruit toner helps clarify and brighten your skin. If you don't have rosemary, you can use dried thyme, sage, lavender, or marjoram.

Ingredients:

Juice of 1 grapefruit

Pinch of dried rosemary

Method:Mix the grapefruit juice and rosemary in a small squeeze bottle or jar. Refrigerate for a few hours so that the ingredients meld together, then dab a cotton ball in the toner and swipe over your face (avoid eyes and any sensitive areas).

Oatmeal Scrub

Oatmeal naturally soothes irritated skin and can be a great balm for rashes. Try this paste on your face or body to relieve redness.

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons rolled oats

1 teaspoon baking soda

Milk

Method: Using a food processor or mortar and pestle, grind the oats until they are of a coarse consistency. Stir in the baking soda and mix well. Transfer the ingredients to a small bowl, and add the milk, a little at a time, until the mixture forms a thick paste.

Apply the paste to your face or body and let sit for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and then pat dry with a towel. (You may want to rinse off in the kitchen sink, as the oatmeal can potentially clog your drain.)

Green Tea Mask

Green tea is full of antioxidants that can soothe redness and help clear up blemishes. This mask takes advantage of green tea's power in two ways: with a bit of the strong brew and with the brewed leaves, which add a bit of exfoliation to the mask.

Ingredients:

Green tea: 2 teaspoons brewed green tea plus the leaves from 1 brewed tea bag

2 tablespoons yogurt

Method: Steep 2 green tea bags in water for 15-20 minutes. Remove the tea bags and let the tea cool. Mix the yogurt with 2 teaspoons of the tea. Then cut open the tea bags and stir in the brewed tea leaves. Apply the mask to your face, and let sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
