16 Outrageous Celebrity Wedding Cakes Slideshow

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

In September 2012, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively had a very private wedding in South Carolina — there were only 35 guests in total. Their impressive wedding cake was showcased in the winter issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, and was made of sour cream and vanilla cake with peach-apricot preserves and Earl Grey-milk chocolate buttercream by Maggie Austin Cake. And as if the magnificent cake wasn't enough, other desserts offered that night included s'mores bars, fruit tarts, and strawberry shortcakes.

Marcia Cross and Tom Mahoney

In 2006, Marcia Cross and Tom Mahoney tied the knot during a traditional ceremony in Pasadena, Calif. They chose Layers Cake Design Studio as their wedding cake maker, and, with the input of some friends, opted for a five-tier white cake with raspberries. Cross commented that the cake was "delicious and the size of the Eiffel Tower."

Mariska Hartigay and Peter Hermann

For Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann's Santa Barbara, Calif. wedding in 2004, Very Different Cakes made a 7-foot-tall, six-tier chocolate and vanilla wedding cake that was topped with an ornate Swarovski crystal topper, showcasing the bride and groom's initials. Each bright (and seemingly suspended in mid-air) floating tier was painted in orange, magenta, and green with butterfly and flower designs.

Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner

In 2009, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. Sylvia Weinstock created a 70-inch, 13-layer cake for the occasion. "Each layer was ringed with flowers," Weinstock said. "We had lisianthus, roses, peonies, lilies of the valley, baby's breath — all in the coloring of whites, creams, pinks ivory, and flush tones." Since they had 500 guests to accommodate, Weinstock made a cake that could suit a variety of tastes with several flavors, like chocolate, carrot, almond, and a yellow cake.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' Italian wedding in 2006 was one of the biggest events of the year. During the celebration in a 15th-century Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, the couple shared a five-tiered white chocolate mousse cake that was decorated with white marzipan roses. Each tier was accented with white pearl detailing.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas were married at New York City's Plaza Hotel in 2000 and had a luxurious wedding reception. They chose celebrity cake designer Sylvia Weinstock for their 6-foot-tall wedding cake that towered so high that they were forced to remove the top two tiers to fit it through the ballroom doors. The impressive 10-tier confection was made of vanilla and buttercream, and decorated with thousands of edible flowers.

Donald Trump and Melania Knauss-Trump

In 2005, Donald Trump and Melania Knauss-Trump exchanged their vows in an unquestionably extravagant ceremony in Palm Beach, Fla. They chose pastry chef Cedric Barbaret to create their 200-pound, seven-tier Grand Marnier chiffon cake that was adorned with 3,000 sugar roses. They also sent their guests home with individual chocolate sponge cakes that were filled with chocolate truffle, and topped with a single edible rose.

Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey

For their 2002 wedding, Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson asked Sam Godfrey of Perfect Endings bakery to make a five-tier cake with white buttercream icing and cake flavors like pound cake with raspberry filling, carrot cake, and red velvet cake. Lachey's German chocolate groom's cake was decorated with a bear's claw representing Cincinnati, his favorite team, on the big day.

The couple divorced in 2005.

Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky

In the summer of 2010, former first daughter Chelsea Clinton married Marc Mezvinsky in an over-the-top ceremony at the Astor Courts Estate in Rhinebeck, N.Y. The couple opted for a gluten-free wedding cake as a testament to their healthy eating-habits and to the bride's celiac disease.

The cake's design was kept under wraps by La Tulipe Desserts until it was unveiled at the reception. Estimated to have cost $11,000, the white, nine-tier, 500-pound, 4-foot tall creation was made of a vanilla sponge cake and dark chocolate mousse. The intricate design featured vanilla fondant on each tier that was decorated with approximately 1,000 sugar flowers including roses, orchids, and calla lilies.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana

Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer married in "the wedding of the century" back in 1981. The couple served 27 wedding cakes made by chef David Avery of the Royal Naval Cookery School. The official cake stood 5 feet tall and was decorated with royal icing featuring the Windsor coat of arms and the prince's coat of arms, as well as roses, lilies of the valley, and orchids. The second layer was preserved, and was later used as Prince William's christening cake.

In 2008, a single slice of the main cake was sold at auction for $1,830. The cake was described as having white icing, and a sugar onlay of the royal coat-of-arms in gold, red, blue, and silver, including a small silver horseshoe and leaf spray. In 1998, a similar piece of cake was sold for approximately $26,000 at auction shortly after the princess' death.

Kate Moss and Jamie Hince

In 2011, Kate Moss tied the knot with Jamie Hince in a wedding that was featured in Vogue with pictures by celebrity photographer, and the couple's friend, Mario Testino. Their Peggy Porschen cake of choice was a six-cake pyramid with each cake in a different flavor.

The decorations included hanging sugar lily of the valley blossoms and white roses gracing the top as well as the base of the entire dessert. The couple was thrilled with the result, exclaiming, "Peggy's cake was beautiful. The perfect wedding cake! It was so delicious, there wasn't a crumb left..."

Prince William and Kate Middleton

On April 29, 2011, Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot, and the celebration was the biggest event of the year. Two cakes were made for the occasion: a main wedding cake and a groom's cake (an American tradition), commissioned to celebrity British cake maker Fiona Cairns (who has also designed cakes for Bono and Paul McCartney) and British cookie-makers McVitie's, respectively.

In an interview with CNN, Cairns talked about the Duchess of Cambridge's input on the cake design: "I've been very much learning from her... For example, the bridal rose symbolizes happiness, the oak and the acorn symbolize endurance... and we have a long list. We haven't made Sweet William yet but we will." The chosen flavor for the eight-tiered cake was a traditional British fruit cake that was decorated with hundreds of white sugar flowers and reportedly cost $80,000.

The groom's cake was made of 1,700 classic tea cookies and used around 37 pounds of chocolate — not surprising, considering the 600 guests that it needed to serve.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries

Although their marriage didn't last, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries certainly knew how to throw a lavish wedding party. Their chocolate chip black-and-white cake was ordered from Hansen's Cakes in Los Angeles, and towered at 6 feet tall. The eight octagonal tiers alternated in flavors between marble cake and chocolate buttercream with white chocolate chips and vanilla cake with chocolate chip filling. Their cake was estimated at $10,000, and was inspired by the royal wedding earlier that year.

Eva Longoria and Tony Parker

In 2007, Eva Longoria married French NBA star Tony Parker in an opulent ceremony in Paris. Their extravagant red wedding cake was created by Perfect Endings bakery in Napa, Calif., and reportedly cost $40,000 after they had it shipped from California to France on a first-class plane ticket.

The five-tier cake was filled with raspberry preserves and white buttercream. In an In Style Weddings feature, design details were revealed: The cake was covered in 1,200 bright red sugar roses, large red and gold bows at the base (a traditional French inclusion), and a quilted pattern adorned the entire confection.

Liza Minnelli and David Gest

In 2002, Liza Minnelli and David Gest tied the knot at the Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. Their extravagant wedding included a 60-piece orchestra and A-list musician attendees like maid-of-honor Elizabeth Taylor, as well as friends Michael Jackson, Tony Bennett, and Natalie Cole.

Their $40,000 towering Sylvia Weinstock cake was art nouveau-inspired, featuring white, black, and red accents, along with sterling-silver-leafed stripes.  Red and purple sugar roses with green leaves adorned the entire 12-tier wedding cake that was filled with chocolate buttercream.

Cookies with pictures of the couple (who later divorced in 2007) were offered as mementos.
