10 Strangest Celebrity Birthday Parties (Slideshow)

He may live in a pineapple under the sea, but SpongeBob Squarepants was the special guest at singer/producer Pharrell's 41st birthday party in New York City. Party guests included Alicia Keys, Swizz Beats, Soledad O'Brien and DJ Q-tip, as well as animated friends like Patrick and Squidward. For birthday dessert? Pharrell and friends munched on a cake that resembled a Krabby Patty.

Elton John’s 50th

In April 1997, Sir Elton John fêted himself with a lavish 50th birthday party in London. He arrived in an eight-foot-tall costume, dressed as Louis XIV, including a silver wig, a silver coat, and a 15-foot feather train. The guest list for the half-million dollar party, which is said to have exceeded 500 people, included composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and hypnotist Paul McKenna. While we don't know the birthday menu for the "Crocodile Rock" singer, it was likely very high end, similar to the Academy Awards Viewing parties the star hosts every year for his AIDS Foundation, which feature five-course dinners.

Dwyane Wade’s 32nd

It's not normal to match your birthday attire to the yacht you've rented to celebrate your 32nd birthday, but then again, the birthday boy was none other than NBA player Dwyane Wade. Both Wade and the yacht, named Venetian Lady, wore a black and white pattern, with the vessel featuring the Heat star's "Way of Wade" logo. The Miami celebration dubbed "Rock the Boat" included LeBron James and Wade's fiancé, actress Gabrielle Union. One of the many birthday cakes even had a sneaker theme! The party ended with a fireworks display.

Simon Cowell’s 50th

The former American Idol judge had a "campy" 50th birthday celebration in 2009, complete with shark tanks in the bathroom and dancing girls. On the menu? Louis Roederer champagne, pizza, sushi, shepherd's pie, and shrimp cocktail. Things got weird when the waiters wore Simon Cowell masks. One guest called the party "Simon-centric." The event's venue had wall paper featuring Cowell's head with devil's horns, his image was projected 60 feet high on a wall, and there were even framed photos of the Brit in each restroom stall.

Miley Cyrus’ 21st Birthday

When the pop star turned 21, she celebrated with pals at Beacher's Madhouse in L.A., with guests including Kelly Osbourne and the Lorax. While it's unknown why the Dr. Suess character made an appearance at Cyrus' celebration, guests had a good time wearing party hats, eating cupcakes, drinking champagne, and watching strippers perform for the crowd.

A year earlier, the former "Hannah Montana" actress posed for photos chowing down on a penis cake at her then-boyfriend Liam Hemsworth's birthday party, also in Los Angeles.

Sean Kingston’s 21st and 22nd Birthdays

Singer Sean Kingston celebrated his 22nd birthday with a bash in Las Vegas at the Tropiciana, where he posed with his Louis Vuitton-inspired cake, which looked like two stacked designer suitcases. A year earlier, the "Fire Burning" singer, decked out in diamonds and gold, celebrated his birthday at Tryst at the Wynn Hotel, also in Vegas, where he had multiple cakes (including one for his mother).

P Diddy’s 40th

P Diddy, the man of many names (Puff Daddy and Sean Combs, to name a few) celebrated his 40th birthday in 2009 in big style. The $3 million event dubbed a "fantasy dreamland" had a maze and a fashion show! Over 500 guests, including Denzel Washington and Jimmy Fallon, attended the swanky party, which was held at New York's Plaza Hotel. Diddy's cake featured black and white tiers with his initials on a shield. The bash was sponsored by the host's own vodka company.

Carey Hart Pub-Crawl

While this isn't that strange, singer Pink hosted a pub-crawl birthday in Venice, CA for her hubby Carey Hart's 39th. The festivities included matching t-shirts for the birthday guy and his buddies. The slogan on the shirts was NSFW but the crew partied safely by bicycle. Aside from indulging in lots of beer, the former motor cross racer blew out the candles on a birthday cake made by Pink and the couple's daughter, Willow.

Kidchilla

In a party theme fit for an adult, Kim Kardashian and Kayne West celebrated baby North's first birthday in Calabasas, CA with a Kidchella party, inspired by the Coachella music festival. Sure there was a tie-dyed birthday cake, food trucks, a bounce house and singing/stage performances but that wasn't all. What one-year-old wouldn't love to ride a Ferris wheel?

Naomi Campbell’s Dubai Party

You probably have to be a supermodel to party like one! For her 36th birthday in 2006, Naomi Campbell hosted her closest friends, including David and Victoria Beckham and Linda Evangelista, for a three-day celebration in Dubai, that reportedly cost $1.8 million. The beauty rented out the whole 18-floor Burj Al Arab Hotel. Each day featured a different theme, including "All White," followed by "Hip Hop," and concluding with "Brazilian Samba." While the birthday party menus are unknown, the hotel has nine restaurants and is known for seafood like caviar and lobster.
