Executive chefs Eduard “Edi” Frauneder and Wolfgang “the Wolf” Ban created a packed, comforting, and unpretentious spot on Avenue C inspired by the “Heuriger,” the casual, neighborhood wine taverns popular in their native Austria. There are many fantastic things to eat, including baby back ribs, the slow-poached farm eggs, and the wiener schnitzel. But above all, you should make a point to not miss the Alsatian flatbreads.

  • Sweet Baby Jesus, the duck here will blow your mind. Schnitzel is also pretty good. Splitty-split for best results.
  • If you are not here for brunch, come back for brunch. And then order the poached eggs w/ the pork belly. And then tweet me (@dens) to tell me how much it blew your mind.
  • Bring a cute date here for a late dinner in the back garden. Make eyes at them over the liptauer cheese and hamachi shared plates. Wait for the inevitable romance.

  • Another 3 hr meal...I give up. Terrible service, and mediocre food. Never again!!!
  • Best spatzle the tiny little Austrian inside of you will ever have.
  • Decor is great. Not sure bout food cause it's taking forever!
  • Edi is like the Austrian half-brother I never knew I wanted. This place will never disappoint!
  • Head for the patio out back...
  • Always have a great experience here. The front room can be a little cramped, go for the patio out back.
  • Should've ordered the schnitzel
  • Don't waste time, get Wiener Schnitzel. So good. (@dens)
  • Lovely schnitzel
  • Really great place for a warm winter dinner or date. Best to share a few plates as there's a lot of great stuff: duck, schnitzel, sea bass.
  • Amazing vibe. And delicious vino & food
  • Village Voice is proud to welcome Edi & The Wolf to the 2014 Choice Eats food fest! http://bit.ly/1cRzdNV. Order the Schnitzel and you won't be let down.
  • Imagine eating German food at Sleep No More. Awesome!
  • Best oxtail gnocchi ever
  • Great music selection. #freebird
  • Get here early! It tends to fill up fast after 7pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The pork belly and squid ink risotto are my favorites!
